Zelenskyy visits Canada, addresses Parliament as PM pledges $650M in Ukraine Aid

In a joint session of Parliament, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked Canada for its sustained support for his country while it defended itself against Russia’s invasion.

His address was the highlight of his tour to Canada, and he used it to make his case for why enduring allegiance is required. Speaking to a rapt audience, he said Canada’s assistance has saved thousands of lives so far and is assisting in removing Vladimir Putin’s ability to use energy as a weapon of war.

“This Russian aggression must end with our victory,” Zelenskyy told the House of Commons after drawing a bleak picture of the horrors witnessed on the streets in the previous 19 months.

During the visit, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau pledged a $650 million “multi-year commitment that provides predictable, steady support to Ukraine,” which will include sending additional armored vehicles and increasing mental health and charitable money. Canada has also imposed further sanctions on Russia.

“Rules are what will protect us in this moment of uncertainty and renewed big power struggle… “How we defend democratic values will be judged by history, and Ukraine is at the tip of the spear in this great challenge of the twenty-first century,” Trudeau said, presenting Ukraine’s president.
